+ What is NEXTBAND Internet?
NEXTBAND Internet is internet delivered over fiber optic cables. The technology allows for faster
download speeds, more upload speeds, and lower latency. Latency is the time it takes for a request to
be made and a response to be received.
+ Does this mean internet over cable modem is not good?
No, on the contrary, FPB’s existing internet offering is rock solid and meets the needs of many of our
customers. This new offering will work well for heavy users and customers who need additional upload
bandwidth. The deployment of this fiber network is for the future of the telecom department.
+ What speeds will be offered?
There will be two speeds available on fiber, 500 Mbps and 1 Gbps. 1 Gbps is equal to 1000 Mbps.
Typically, our customers can enjoy speeds in the 800-950Mbps range, which helps all your devices stay
connected to some of the world’s fastest residential internet.
+ How much will it cost?
The residential pricing is $75/month for the 500 Mbps service and $90/month for the 1 Gbps service. A
$10 monthly discount will be available to those customers who sign a 12-month service agreement.
+ Why offer 12-month service agreements?
As a way to reduce cost to our customers, we are providing the option to sign up for a 12-month service
agreement and receive a discount on the monthly service. At launch, the discount will be $10/month
and will also require the customer to sign up for e-billing and bank draft.
+ What happens if I cancel my service prior to the 12-month time frame?
The early termination fee will be $120. If a you move outside of the NEXTBAND service area, the fee may
be waived.
+ What happens when the 12 months expires?
The customer will begin to be billed at the standard rate. Customers will be allowed to sign up for
additional 12-month agreements at the expiration of their previous ones in order to maintain the $10
discount.
+ Will existing 2- and 3-service discounts still apply?
Yes.
+ Who can get it?
The first customers were activated in January 2022.
+ When will I get it?
You can check availability here. If you’re not in one of our current service areas, you can leave your email and get updated about our progress. Every home and business that currently receives FPB telecommunication service will have access to Nextband.
+ Do I have to take NEXTBAND? Can I keep my existing cable modem service?
Customers who are in our NEXTBAND neighborhoods but are happy with their existing cable modem
service do not need to switch to fiber.
+ If I switch to NEXTBAND, can I still get cable TV and telephone service?
Yes. We encourage those customers moving to NEXTBAND Internet who are interested in Cable TV to
move to the new app-based video offering called NEXTBAND Stream, when it becomes available, but
you can stay on the old system if that’s what you prefer. Telephone service will continue to be offered.
+ Does my home need to be wired differently to take advantage of NEXTBAND?
FPB’s NEXTBAND 500 meg and 1 gig plans are delivered via an all-fiber connection, so customers will
need a fiber optic cable installed inside their home to establish service.
+ How long does a NEXTBAND installation take?
A NEXTBAND installation typically takes 4 hours.
+ I live in an apartment. Can I get NEXTBAND?
Because NEXTBAND requires a new wire connected to your residence, you will need to contact your landlord prior to NEXTBAND installation.
+ Will NEXTBAND increase the value of my home?
Fiber-to-the-Home could increase the value of your home by as much as $5,000, according to the Fiberto-the-Home Council. Our investment in your home means more money in your pocket. More importantly, fiber to your home means a higher quality of life for you in this digital information age, where so
much of what we do to enrich our lives has moved online. More internet speed means more fun.
NEXTBAND will also naturally lead to more economic development in your areas due to the advanced
technology and Internet commerce opportunities available in the area. This is especially important in
rural areas, where a gap has traditionally existed in diverse economic opportunities—but in our new
information economy—fiber puts us all on the same footing.
+ What is a gigabit?
One gigabit per second (Gbps) is 1000 megabits (Mbps), a way to measure both speed and capacity for
an internet connection. NEXTBAND 1 Gig gives you internet that can get or send information up to one
gigabit per second without data caps. That means enough internet for everyone in your home and all
their devices.
+ Why do faster speeds matter?
Whether it’s streaming TV, working from home, video calling, gaming, or something else, many things
we do today require fast, reliable internet for both uploads and downloads. Powerful Wi-Fi across your
whole home means you’re not restricted to that one spot if you want a fast, reliable wireless connection. Whether wired or over Wi-Fi, the more people use an internet connection, the slower it may go.
That’s why speeds faster than a single internet-connected device typically goes (such as 1 Gig) can
make sure that everyone can use the internet at once without slowdowns.
+ Is there a cap on data usage with NEXTBAND Internet?
No, unlike many competitors, NEXTBAND Internet gives you an unlimited amount of data and won’t
charge you more based on usage.
+ Can I get NEXTBAND Internet for my business?
Absolutely. NEXTBAND fits well in FPB’s Business Solutions portfolio.
+ How do I find out if NEXTBAND is available at my residence?
Customers can go here and enter their address to see if NEXTBAND is available at their residence or business.
+ Why is service not available in my area?
Service availability is based on a few different factors. All current FPB customers will have access to
NEXTBAND in the coming years. For specific questions, email us at NEXTBAND@fewpb.com
